Winning sectionals and the first game of regionals for the Indian Creek Braves this year was the highlight of my baseball career. By doing so, our team made school history. But getting to that point has been a long process. As a young, small baseball player, I was often overlooked. I spent many tournaments in travel ball watching my teammates play and longing for the day when I could get out there and play as much as the others. Although confidence in myself began to diminish, my parents' confidence did not. They knew I had the skills required to play high school ball. I never gave up practicing and working on baseball. After moving schools, my dedication finally paid off: playing Varsity my freshman year (I was the only freshman playing with 12 seniors). Apparently those coaches saw in me what my parents and I knew I possessed all along. I pitched and even started at third base at times. During my sophomore year I batted .400, pitched and started third base and earned the Sportsmanship Award for our team. My junior year I batted .385, threw a no-hitter, earned MVP for our team, and made All-Conference. I am greatly looking forward to seeing how far we can go my senior year!
Because of my experiences as a child, I want to work with kids as a physical education teacher and coach. I want to give all kids a chance to grow and develop despite their size or ability level. Having the opportunity to play baseball at the next level will definitely contribute to this goal.
