Personal Statement
When was in fourth grade, I decided to sign up for the local community youth team with my friend Alex. Aside from joining my best friend, I also wanted to emulate my favorite baseball Dustin Pedroia. By the time I was in sixth grade, I had joined a Korean Little League team and started to take on baseball more seriously. My development in the sport continued into high school, eventually leading me to becoming captain of my high school baseball team, All Far East Player, and team MVP. Going into college I hope to use baseball as a platform to further my development in the sport and receive a high level education that I can use after my years in college.
Since becoming captain in my sophomore year, I felt the need to improve myself in my leadership abilities on and off the field. I learned that being a captain went beyond the title itself. I have developed my abilities to talk to the coach as well as teammates, making sure that practices and game plans are executed smoothly. Another aspect that I have learned is the importance of creating unity and accountability on the team. This skill has particularly important in games we have lost as I made it a priority to maintain cohesion in the team when it was needed. Furthermore, as captain I understood the importance of excelling in the classroom and as a public figure in the school. I worked hard in the classroom as well as participated in many extracurricular activities. The hard work led to me joining the National Honors Society(NHS), being elected as to the Student Council junior and senior year, and establishing the Model United Nations (MUN) program at my school.
Speaking personally, I feel that I stand out from other recruits because I truly understand what it takes to be a student athlete. Aside from my successes on the field, I have used the lessons from baseball to excel in the classroom as well as the school community. As a result, athletics has allowed me open portals to colleges.
I look forward to continuing to development as a baseball player, student, and a community leader. I firmly believe that the steps I have taken up to this point of my life can lead to continued success as collegiate athlete.
