Personal Statement
My name is Maclain and I am a 17 year old New Zealander who is looking to further my study and athletic career in the United States. I believe that given the opportunity, I could grow as a player and a person.
I graduated highschool in December 2021, and I’m looking at options for 2023.
As a 6 ft 5 left-hander I have been a useful player in the three sports I am currently playing. Covid 19 has not impacted greatly on sports within NZ and I have been successful in national selection for baseball - NZ U18 Baseball Team - named in 2020 and New Zealand U23s in April of 2022. I have played softball for my whole life and represented regionally for Auckland in the U19 Softball Team this year. I have also been a part of the NZ Development Waterpolo Squad for 2003-born players.
I have always played team sports and am known as a loyal, team player. Sport has always been a major part of my life and I’d like it to be a major part of my future.
I was introduced to baseball two years ago and have been a pitcher during that time, focusing on improving my craft. I realise that I have potential and would like to go to a school that has an excellent baseball programme to take me to the next level.
Academically, I have focused on Sports and Health subjects at school and would like to focus on that area academically. Currently I am studying Health Education, Biology, Outdoor Education, Sports Coaching and English.
Past travel to California and Hawaii highlighted to me that the USA is a country that creates possibilities and that is why I am interested in pursuing my baseball future in the US,
