Personal Statement
As soon as I started playing at five years old, I had an instant love for the game and as I got older that love only grew. When on the field for games or practice, baseball helps act as stress relief for me. As soon as I step on the field with my teammates, all problems that may be going on in my life disappear. When I am on the mound, the only thing that goes through my mind is performing to the best of my abilities.
I can be an asset to a college team because I am an unselfish teammate that encourages and supports everyone. I don’t complain and try to understand what is best for my team at all times. One of my best qualities as a pitcher is making hitters get themselves out by dictating the at-bat. This helps me keep my pitch count low and go deeper into games. I have an understanding of pitch sequencing and what pitches are working for me during the game.
I think it is important to highlight that I developed late compared to my peers and was always extremely undersized until last year when I hit a major growth spurt (10 inches in 15 months). I feel I have a lot of room to grow to fill out my frame and am working hard to add muscle. In addition, I truly enjoy going to practice and constantly look for extra time to get in additional work to continuously improve.
There is nothing I would want more than being able to play the game I love for another four years while earning a college degree. There are several things that I am really looking for in a college program: A place where coaches believe in my abilities; a competitive environment; a place where I feel I will be able to live for four years that holds me accountable in both school and athletics.
