Personal Statement
My name is Herman Teller-Ríos, DOB May 3rd 2004, RHP. I graduated on June 2021 with a 4 GPA as the SALUTATORIAN of my class, I am fully bilingual in English and Spanish.
I signed in March 2022 the NCAA Athletic Letter of Commitment with Kentucky Wesleyan College Panthers as a RHP. I am looking forward to my first NCAA season in 2023 as a freshman international student-athlete in the USA.
I received a scholarship from Combine Academy in North Carolina and attended it’s one year Post Grad Baseball Program 2021-2022 to improve my academic standards and athletic skills, at the end of the program I got recruited by Kentucky Wesleyan College Panthers as a RHP.
I have played baseball since I was 8 years old, and at the age of 10 I started playing in the Nicaraguan Federated League, where through the various age categories we conquered several regional championships.
In April 2018, I was drafted by The Vasquez Baseball Academy, an organization that operates by invitation-only for MLB prospects.
In the 2019 season, I was the leading pitcher of the season with an ERA of 0.86, including a no-hitter, at the Junior AA category (for 15-16 year-old players) ruled by the Nicaraguan Federated League,
I made the 2020 Managua ALL STATE TEAM Junior AAA (age Category 17-18 years old - even though I was Category Junior AA 15-16 years old). We participated in the National Championship and the Nicaraguan Baseball Federation (FENIBA) ranked me the top 6th pitcher nationally. You can find the official document of my national ranking from FENIBA attached at the varsity team record of my profile.
The Scouts of 9 MLB organizations follow the players development at our academy, and according to the them I have good mechanics, control over corners with my fast ball, and good domain over my changeup, slider and curves. Currently we are working on my overall development to improve my mechanics, increase speed and domain of all my resources.

I attended the bilingual Nordic International School (English & Spanish) and I previously attended the bilingual Nicaraguan German School for over 10 years (German & Spanish). Going through different school systems has been a great experience, being the German system a traditional one and the Nordic system a more personalized and individual skill-oriented one. My years at the traditional German system were hard, but they helped me build my character and resilience. At the Nordic School I have had the opportunity to discover new interests and I am fortunate to have teachers who nurture and foster them, including my passion for baseball and I am attracted to the understanding of different cultures and world history.
I come from a country that has gone through deep political and economic crisis throughout its history, but my parents have been able to provide us stability, a loving home, a healthy life style and a sense of resilience for handling both good and bad times.
Due to the pandemic, we all are living extraordinary circumstances that has affected our lives. I count with the support of my teachers, coaches and family, specially from my father a former Olympic athlete, aside from my own determination, to face a future that despite being uncertain and challenging is full of hopes for the best.
