Personal Statement
Baseball is my game! I’m Thomas Zilavec in the class of 2022 at Father John Redmond High School located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I am a right-handed hitter as well as throw right-handed. My primary position is back catcher and my secondary position is outfield, but I can fill in any position if needed. I am currently 5'9.5” and 175 lbs. and in my senior year. I have always enjoyed playing ball, starting with t-ball at the age of 3 and once moved into baseball, the game became a passion with visions of playing for the Big Leagues. I threw the ball against my family’s brick wall daily, something anyone else might find boring, but I recognized it improved my eye-hand coordination and enhanced my abilities on the field. I take pride my independence and push myself to my limits to see what I am capable of. I approach life with responsibility first and then play hard because a good balance in life leads to higher success. I have the drive to compete with the best, as coaches/teachers recognize my dedication to learning and excelling on and off the field. I currently play for a traveling club team FIELDHOUSE PIRATES 18U and have played on the varsity level high school baseball team in 9th grade but as a result of the Covid ordeal, was not allowed to play Spring 2020, 2021. In addition to baseball I also join the volleyball team which tests and further improves my eye-hand reaction and bonds me with my classmates. With a GPA at 3.9, holding AP classes in Math and Sciences, I have a strong desire to pursue a career in the Engineering field, attending the College or University that meets my criteria, and expect to continue reaching my highest potential on the baseball field. Due to Covid restrictions in Canada 2020-2021, I was unable to acquire the amount video footage of training and fielding that would entail proper exposure, thus will be delaying my college start date until Fall 2023. During this time, (2022-2023) I will be continuing my full time training at the Burlington Fieldhouse Baseball Club, weight lifting and any additional drills and instructional work to improve my game.
Thank you for taking time out to view my credentials and look forward to getting to know more about your team and coaching style!
Sincerely,
Thomas Zilavec
