My name is Matt Steffensmeier, and I am 6’1, 195lb, a senior pitcher at Garner-Hayfield-Ventura High School. I am a hard worker that has overcome many obstacles. I have had many knee injuries including, two major knee surgeries causing me to miss two straight seasons. Unlike most people, I didn’t go and hide until I was healthy. I was still the first person at practices and games and the last to leave. I even earned a varsity letter as the team manager. I have put in countless hours rehabbing, and I am back to 100 percent. I am a leader on my team, as I have organized weight lifting groups for the younger guys on my team. Playing baseball at the next level has been a dream of mine ever since I could throw a baseball. I also want to continue my academic career, as school is most important to me. I am very dedicated to getting good grades and being at the top of my class.
Reference from one of my former coaches, Paul Childress:
"My name is Paul Childress and I was one of Matt Steffenmeier’s baseball coaches from 2018-2020. Matt is a talented baseball player worthy of your attention. However, I would like to draw attention to more things that surround his character. During the summer of 2020, Matt was unable to participate due to a knee injury. This did not stop him from having a positive impact on the team. He became the team manager for the summer and did everything he could to help the team be successful. He came early to every practice and every game. He was also our bookkeeper during the games. At practice, he would do whatever was asked of him. He could be preparing equipment, shagging balls for coaches, or doing work for other coaches that was needed; no questions asked. He was more accountable than most of the kids that were actually playing. The summer of 2021 proved to be a wonderful comeback for Matt as he was the #2 pitcher on a conference championship team. He has the attributes that I believe a college coach should be looking for. He has a great attitude, is extremely responsive to coaching, works hard, and has a true love of the game. Off the field, Matt is a quality student and quality kid. I have no doubt that Matt would have a positive impact on any college baseball team. If you have any questions regarding Matt, I can be reached by phone or email.
