Personal Statement

My name is Cameron Baughman and baseball has been a passion of mine since I was 3 years old.  I’m an athlete who has helped every team I’ve been on become a winner.  I have a strong baseball IQ & am very coachable.  In junior high, I also played basketball & was the starting guard on a team that went 34-1 in city play in Lexington, Kentucky.  I also played HS ball during my freshman year, but decided that I wanted to focus on developing my skillset to only focus on baseball.  During my final year of Cal Ripken baseball, I hit 17 home runs and 61 RBI’s in 25 games.  My record, as a pitcher, over three seasons, was 23-2.  My team went on to the Cal Ripken World Series where I was named MVP of one game and voted All-Star first baseman for the entire series.  I play first base, OF,  am a solid LHP, & have a strong on base percentage.  I am an excellent bunter.  A coach reference for this period of time is Brent Eisele (859.351.8742).

During my freshman season at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School, I led the JV baseball team in home runs, bunt singles and RBI’s.  As a pitcher, I had a 6-1 record with an ERA of 0.84.  I threw 41 strikeouts in 33 innings.   I was one of 2 freshman that got to play up on the varsity team.  During my sophomore year, I started on the varsity team and finished in the top three in batting average, hits and RBI’s. In addition, I had 26 strikeouts in 22 innings.  My high school coach is Seth Knight (859.940.1801  [email protected] )

My hitting and pitching coach since I was 9 years old has been Jim Hinerman.  Coach Hinerman is a former baseball coach at University of Kentucky, Georgetown College, & now teaches at Eastern Kentucky University.  His phone number is 859.948.2566 and his email address is [email protected]  He has volunteered to speak with you about my skills and leadership.

Twice a week in the off season I go to speed training at the Lexington HIIT center and at least twice a week I go to the YMCA (where I also work) to work out and play basketball.

I have played summer travel ball for the last four seasons with Bluegrass Xpress, coached by Mike Hukill.  (859.533.8811  [email protected] )and will play again this summer on the 17/18U team coached by Corey Bays (859.361.4367) & Mark Hukill (859.494.031).  My GPA is 3.5, and my practice score on my ACT was 25.  I will take my first ACT test in March.  I am enrolled in an eight week class to improve my ACT starting in April and will retake the test in June.

In summary, I feel I will make an excellent student athlete based on my leadership skills and the results I have produced in the past as well as a strong work ethic to get better every day & would welcome the opportunity to be an addition to any team who values a strong & sincere desire to succeed.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
