Cody Akridge '22 Recruiting Profile

I have been playing baseball since t-ball, but it was during the transition from machine pitch to kid pitch that the game really came alive to me.  I began playing travel ball not long after.  I am drawn to the competition and teamwork aspects most of all.

A couple life experiences have shaped me into the person I am today.  For most of 2018, I was sidelined from club baseball and missed my freshman cross country season with bilateral tibial stress fractures.  I was not allowed to play summer baseball or train with the high school cross country team in any way that year which was really tough.  Instead,  I helped coach and encourage the baseball team at every tournament.  I also served as the cross country team’s student manager and chief encourager as they went on to win the state championship within our division.  Once healed, I returned to my training and assisted the team in winning regionals my sophomore year and subsequently state this year. This baseball season has also been particularly humbling.  The team is very young, inexperienced and injury-ridden.  Many of our games ended in us being run-ruled.  Its made me want to work even harder and contribute to the team’s success any way I could - including playing several different positions when needed.  I have learned how tough and resilient I am through both of these experiences.

Academically my goal is to take the highest level classes available, make Honor Role every semester and graduate within the top ranks of my class.   Ultimately  I want to work in the field of prosthetics.  I am seeking a student-athlete college experience that will be a good fit for me athletically, while also supporting my dream of earning a biomedical engineering degree.  I am confident that my academic strengths coupled with my athletic competitiveness, utility-player skills and teamwork-approach will be able to quickly contribute to YOUR baseball program.  I am ready for the challenge!
