Personal Statement

My name is Josh Wilson and I am a  17 year old junior at Lincoln County High School in Stanford, KY.  I am a starting Varsity outfielder and part of the pitching rotation for my Varsity team.  I am  5' 11", weigh 153 lbs and both bat and throw left handed.  I run a 7.2 in the sixty yard dash.  Our Varsity team was District Runner Up in 2012 with a record of 20-18 overall.  I also played summer baseball for Morse Baseball Academy in Danville, KY which is owned and ran by former MLB player, Paul Morse.  In 2012 our team traveled to Puerto Rico where we faced several international teams. This summer I will spend 5 weeks on a college campus (to be determined) as a 2014 Governors Scholar.  While this will slow down my baseball training temporarily, it opens the door for significant college scholarships at most Kentucky colleges and universities.

I have 3 years experience on our high school Varsity team, earning a starting position in center field during my sophomore year. The 2014 season was a short one for me because of a minor injury to my arm.  There are no long term impacts on my play with this injury and UK Sports Medicine expects a complete recovery well before the 2015 season.  I am currently in rehab and am progressing well as I train and condition for my senior season. I generally bat 1st, through  4th in our line up and before my injury was batting over 0.400 and OB% was nearing 0.600.  My sophomore year I finished the regular season with the second highest batting average, second in stolen bases, a Varsity ERA of 0.0 with 6 K's and no BB in 5 innings and a JV ERA of 1.36 with 31 K's and 4 walks in 22 innings pitched. In summer travel ball I had a BA of .380 for the season with 27 hits, 22 runs, 7 doubles, a triple, 12 RBIs and 10 SACs, and 11 SB.

What I can offer to any baseball team is leadership by example, dedication, and a drive to be the best player I can be.  I am committed to working hard to improve my skills, encouraging teammates, and doing the little things that make a team better.  I can promise nothing less than 100% effort to any team I am on.  I represent not only the team I play for, but my parents, my community and myself when I practice and when I play.  I will not give less than my best effort....everyday, every play.

My dream is to continue to play baseball at the collegiate level.  Baseball has been a part of my life since I was 3.  It is something my entire family has always done together and I am not ready to walk away from the sport that has come to define a part of who I am.  I hope to find a college that is right for me academically, but also provides me the opportunity to continue to live out my dream on the baseball field.  I have worked hard in the classroom, knowing that scholarship money is a must for my family.  I have worked equally hard on the field to prepare myself to play at the next level. I am a dedicated, focused, hard working individual who is not afraid of a challenge.
