Personal Statement

Coach referrals:

Maine Lightning coach reference:

Player Reference: Qwest Newhall

Qwest is a tremendous asset to our team.  He has been our most consistent hitter all season. Works hard to improve his game, including significant refinement of his swing in the offseason that has resulted in consistent squaring up of the baseball. Hands are very quiet at the plate and has a great feel for the strike zone. He leads the team in hits and on-base percentage. Decent speed with good instincts on the base paths. Qwest is a solid outfielder — takes the right first step and angle on balls in the gap and has a strong, accurate arm. A pleasure to coach and a good clubhouse guy, always competes.

Coach Orlando – Maine Lighting 17U

To who it may concern,

My name is Ryan Martin and I have coached Qwest for 2 baseball seasons.  Qwest Newhall is a baseball junkie who has a very relaxed and confident approach to the game of baseball.  Qwest does not have a weakness to his game which makes him able to play multiple positions well.  He has an excellent arm and covers a lot of range out in center field.  Qwest excels on the base paths with his combination of speed, awareness and understanding of the game.  Qwest also swings a very good bat, and has some of his best at bats against the best pitchers.  The best part about coaching Qwest this season is that he is a team first guy, and extremely coachable. I look forward to following his career at the next level.

I would love to talk with you more about Qwest as a person and as a baseball player.

Training

  • 1 year
  • July 23, 2021 To Whom It May Concern: I have had the opportunity to get to know Qwest Newhall over the past 10 months while he has been training at my facility. As his Sports Performance Coach I have observed Qwest to be a positive, friendly, and model student athlete. I feel strongly that he possesses the personal attributes to become an excellent college student and outstanding professional in whatever field he decides to pursue. Qwest is an extremely hard worker who sets goals, shows up day after day, and consistently works hard to achieve those goals. When Qwest arrived at our facility, he weighted 146 pounds and set a goal of bringing his body weight to 180lbs. Through regular training and dedication to his diet he achieved this goal within 6months! As you know, gaining weight is not easy and requires a steadfast commitment to taking in your calories even during those times you do not feel like eating. This is just a great example to Qwest’s work ethic and that once he sets his mind to something he works hard to achieve that goal on a daily basis. He is a bright and intuitive athlete who is always thinking during training sessions. As you know, this is a rare quality for a high school athlete. He doesn’t just pick weights up and put them down, he asks questions as to why he is doing something so he can understand the principles behind his training. He does a great job of taking feedback about his performance and the areas he can improve upon. Qwest is a disciplined student and athlete. He often traveled 30 minute to come to training 4 days per week for 8 months in pursuit of his goal to be a better athlete. While he is training, he is making the best use of his time. He doesn’t fool around he just goes right to work from the moment he walks in the door to the time he leaves. This kind of disciplined work ethic is missing in many of today’s student athletes. It has been a pleasure working with Qwest at our facility and I recommend him without reservation. I welcome you to contact me if you require additional information or would like further comments. Sincerely, Stanley Skolfield, ATC,CSCS Owner, Skolfield Sports Performance 15 Lund Road Saco, ME 04072 (207) 602-6322
