My name is Nate Hartley and baseball is my life.
I’m a 6’0” 185lb left-handed pitcher from Belmont, MA, graduating with the class of 2023. I am a hard working and dedicated competitor on and off the field, and am looking for a college experience that will continue to challenge me both athletically and academically.
I am a fierce competitor, holding myself and my team to a higher standard than anyone around me. Covid stole my freshman spring season from me, but I started with the varsity squad as a sophomore with a 1.35 ERA over 40 innings. I was awarded varsity pitcher of the year in June 2021 by the coaching staff. This last award meant the most to me as I really enjoy being a part of these teams and I pride myself on the relationships I have built with my teammates and coaches. I strive to lead by example and hold myself to higher standards when representing my school both on and off the field. In addition to baseball, I am a member of my high school varsity golf and wrestling teams.
I also pitch for the Route 2 Blue Sox out of Arlington, MA, competing the Perfect Game showcase in Fort Meyers last July 2021 and plan to attend the Diamond Nation Super17 Invitation in Trenton this June 2022. When not pitching, I use my speed to cover center field where nothing makes me happier than gunning down a baserunner as they try to run home on my watch.
Last summer my fastball was consistently ~79-81mph with good command(83 top speed at Northeastern University). my pitching arsenal consist of a curveball, slider, and change-up. I’ve spent this offseason focused on weight training, weight gain, and mechanics. I’ve seen significant gains in all three areas since last fall and expect my fastball to be sitting mid-80s this spring.
Off the field, I remain active in the community that has given me opportunities. I volunteer with the town Lion’s Club and Food Pantry. Last year as a Student Ambassador I organized, recruited, and led a walk to support the Carroll Center for the Blind. Knowing how much the team experience has meant to me, I volunteer at winter baseball clinics and umpire town little league games like those who came before me. This spring I’m organizing a fund-raising event to support baseball programs in the city of Boston.
I am just as dedicated to my education as I am to my competition. I entered my junior year with a 3.9 GPA (unweighted) and am taking all honors and AP courses this year. I’m considering a business or economics major and am looking at a high academic college or university where I will continue to challenge myself in the classroom. I’m most interested in a medium to large size school and I’d be just as happy to travel to other parts of the country for college as I would to stay close to home in New England.
Baseball has been the driving force in my life for as long as I can remember and my goal is to compete at the highest levels for as long as possible.
