My collegiate goals and aspirations to play at the highest level started since the day I picked up a ball and a bat. Ever since I was a little boy, I have always had a deep love and appreciation for the game of baseball. Growing up, I would watch “The Sandlot” on repeat and the words to the song “Put Me in Coach” still resonates in my head when I think of all of the fond memories I have at the ball fields, watching teams take to the field to warm up. My first plane ride was to South Carolina, to watch my uncle play college baseball. My love for the game runs deeper than just my own personal goals and aspirations, as it is built within my own family’s tradition to play at the next level.
I have been extremely fortunate to be raised by a family who has a passion for the game. My dad, who played Division 1 baseball at Coastal Carolina, has been my coach, mentor, and best friend throughout this journey in my life. Our bond over the game of baseball is unbreakable. Because of what my father and I share, I have a drive and motivation to always put forth my best effort, on and off of the field. This mentality fuels me to wake up everyday and push myself to be best student athlete, teammate, and player to accomplish my goal of playing collegiate baseball.
Before the baseball season, I decided to challenge myself both physically and mentally. When Covid hit, the world came to an abrupt stop. Suddenly, we all were facing a harsh and unexpected reality. I chose to use this time as a motivating factor and continued push forward. I challenged myself to push towards peak performance. For 90 days- I would put my body and mind to the test. My peak performance goal included four categories for self betterment, which included: Nutrition, Physical Fitness, Motivational Learning, and Visualization. Accomplishing this goal was extremely difficult and there were days I questioned and doubted my abilities. Thanks to the encouragement and motivation provided by my amazing parents, we decided to take this challenge on as a family. By accepting this challenge as a family, we were able to hold one another accountable, every day. Because of this, I have been able to put on nearly 30 pounds of muscle before the start of the baseball season, which helped me land the lead off spot on my high school Varsity baseball team as a freshman.
One quote that I like to live by was said by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson: “Be the hardest working individual in the room”- I compete in the classroom like I do on the field because you cannot leave anything to chance. The same saying goes for umpires in baseball- never leave it in their hands. I currently hold a 4.0 grade point average, while taking honors classes at Allen Park High School. School has always been something I’ve connected with because my mom is a teacher. I feel it has always come naturally and has helped me in communicating and connecting with others both on and off of the ball field.
I share a little bit about my family and the relationship I have with my father because they are the roots and strength of my foundation. These roots have helped to establish my passion for the game and solidify where I want to be one day. I push myself every day, to reach my goal. The moment I step on to your ball field as an All-Academic/All Conference baseball player, I will look forward to looking at my dad in the stands and giving him a tip my cap as a sign of my appreciation, to thank him for the opportunity he has given me and the dream that we share TOGETHER.
