Personal Statement

Dear College Baseball Recruiter,

My name is Jon M. Campbell Jr.. I'm a motivated young man working hard towards advancing my baseball career to the college level and beyond. I'm equally motivated in advancing my education through college and  graduate school.

I have been Magna Cum Laude my last three academic school years. My academic goal this year is to achieve National Honor Society. I'm very serious about being successful with my academics to pursue a professional career in engineering or medicine.

The biggest way I can contribute to your baseball team is that I'm a five tool player that can play multiple positions and including pitcher. The last 4 years I have been a major contributor on my Club Baseball team the Motor City Hit Dogs. My team has consistently participated in major tournaments in the US. My team has also consistently been ranked in the top 20 per several Travel Ball Rankings.

Lastly , I'm a person of good moral character and strong work ethics. You will never have to worry about me  misrepresenting your College or  Baseball Team.

Sincerely

Jon

  • Hi Jon, Good to hear from you again. Jon, Jr. was 82-84 on the mound the first day (touching 85 and 86 on two pitches respectively) and coaches were extremely high on both his athleticism on the mound and his curveball. They graded him out as a 4/5. 5 being a potential draft pick. 4 being a college ready pitcher. 3 being an above average high school pitcher. 2 being an average high school pitcher. 1 being a below average high school pitcher. They described his curveball as having consistent spin and shape and said it was a plus college pitch. The one area of constructive criticism was regarding the consistency of his CH. Day 2, his velocity dipped to 77-78 – understandable at the end of a long weekend – but the evaluator still graded out his curveball as ++ and described him as an athlete definitely worth following. All in all, it was a terrific showing and I imagine he will certainly be hearing from a few schools.

  • 2016 National Underclass Showcase-Main Event Jon Campbell Jr is a 2019 SS/OF/2B with a 6-0 170 lb. frame from Bloomfield Hills, MI who attends Detroit Country Day. Medium, athletic build with square shoulders and present strength proportioned throughout frame, additional room to fill out. Ran a 7.08 60-yard dash. Primary middle infield, fields the ball out front and funnels ball up to chest, shows footwork moving towards the ball and rounds the ball well to get behind, good first step to ball, short arm action, stays upright through fielding the ball and release, accurate throws across the diamond. Righthanded hitter, begins with a wide and even stance with a high hand set and back elbow in the box. Short stroke coming through the zone, looks to work the middle of the field with a contact approach. Simple leg lift trigger for timing, shows looseness to swing with extension to swing path, able to work gap-to-gap and repeats well with balance. Very good student. PG Grade 7.5 7-Navy vs 8-Orange Game Highlights 12/28/2016 4:10:32 PM Jon Campbell Jr (2019 SS, Bloomfield Hills, MI) made consistent contact with a short stroke and a line drive swing plane at the plate. Just needs to keep getting stronger, which will come with age. Whenever you swing, do so with an aggressive intent to hurt the baseball. Intent will lead to good bat speed and power. Defense: Decent arm strength, will keep getting better with size and strength. Very good actions and good feel for position. Good player that will get better as you get older.

  • Physical Description Live, wiry strong, projectable frame. Athletic look, broad thru back with sloping shoulders to tapered waist and high rear. The type of body that fills in naturally as he matures and continues to work on strength and conditioning. Summation Projectable, rising sophomore at one of the top High School’s in the state of Michigan both academically and athletically. Jon was elevated to the varsity level midway through his Freshman year due to ability and performance and was the only Freshman on varsity this year. Is a focused and disciplined hitter who hits out of a straight up, even stance with proper hand load and hip rotation at the outset. Stays balanced throughout swing while staying short to the ball with extension out front. Solid bat speed now but will only increase with continued reps and added strength. Line drive, gap to gap hitter with future power down the road due to approach and hit ability. Pretty good pitch recognition, especially for age, who doesn’t try to do too much at the plate. Defensively he has primarily played SS but has experience at 2B as well as the outfield. Jon is an extremely focused player especially defensively as he is aware of the situation and positions himself well. Is currently working on his footwork and his arm path as he can get long at times from glove to hand. He does have sure hands and plenty of arm to stay on left side of infield but steady enough to move to 2B if needed. Not a lot of outfield experience but is natural out there with solid bat reads, jumps, range and arm to play CF. Currently not a burner yet (7.37) but runs the bases well, is aggressive and can really move 1B to 3B. Young player who is still learning the nuances of base stealing but is a quick study. Overall, Jon certainly has the ability to play at the D1 level moving forward not just based on his overall physical abilities but he is one of the most focused players that I have been around with impeccable work ethic and attention to detail. Great teammate and I am excited to see what the future holds for Jon. Additional questions or feedback please call or email at contact info below. Derrick Ross – 248.494.3582 | [email protected]

In the outfield, he takes good angles to the ball and is aggressive through the ball with his lower half. His position velocity was 75 mph. • 08/02/2015 - Interactive Video Program - Dublin (Columbus), OH Jon continues to shine on the diamond. His athleticism and versatility make him fun to watch. As a hitter, this righty stands in with an athletic setup and patience as he tracks pitches into the zone. He takes an aggressive hack and squares the ball up consistently. More hand separation during his load will increase leverage which will result in harder contact. At SS, Jon shows active footwork and moves well around the GB. He gathers smoothly and works in-line toward his target at 1B. Int he OF, Jon takes good routes/angles to track down fly-balls. He secures the ball and plays through it well, gaining ground toward his target. Continuing to strengthen his arm (long toss) will aid in his development both as an INF & OF. Jon (2019 grad) has skills with still a ton of time to develop.

  • 01/16/2015 - Baseball Factory Spring Training at the Yankees Training Complex Jon is a hard worker who has a high baseball IQ. Defensively, this athletic SS moves well around the ground ball from right to left. He gathers well with smooth actions and funnels to a clean transfer/exchange. He fires strong throws across the diamond with accuracy into his target. He is vocal and takes charge in the INF. Continuing to develop his foot speed will allow for quicker lateral movements which will aid in his development in the MIF. With the bat, this RHH shows a square setup with rhythm to load. The ball explodes off of his barrel as he squares it up consistently (going 3 for 4 with 3 singles at the event). Jon brings his all and leaves it on the field.

He works back into a strong loaded position, waiting for his pitch. Barrel delivery is quick to and through the zone as he connects and hits line-drives. At SS, Jon shows active footwork hustling into an athletic fielding position behind the GB. He makes the plays and gains ground toward his target at 1B. In the OF, Jon is quick to his right and left to track down fly-balls. He plays through the ball well and works in-line toward his target. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.
