Having an audience as I kicked up dust clouds or picked dandelions on the field is what first captivated me with baseball. Of course, I was four years old then and it was my first experience with T-ball on the local McDonald’s sponsored team. Now, as a sophomore in high school it’s the skill, the strategy, the competitiveness, and the team comradery that make me so passionate about the game.
As I mentioned, I started with T-ball as a preschooler. I then played for the local recreation team. Unfortunately as I entered middle school there were no local teams. That is when I started to explore travel teams. This is when my true love of the game started to develop. I have been part of some great teams, met numerous other players, and have had many different coaches. Each coach and team came with different coaching strategies and team dynamics. I have embraced all of these experiences and believe I have grown and learned through them. Through private hitting and pitching lessons as well as hours of practice at home, I have worked diligently to strengthen my skills and overcome weaknesses.
I have a strong work ethic and believe in creating a plan and working the plan. Every year since I was in middle school I have written a set of short-term and long-term goals for myself. I keep these posted in my bedroom so I never lose focus. I also revisit these goals to confirm I am on target and adjust the goals as necessary. Staying focused on my long-term goals and using the short-term goals to get there is what works for me. I think what sets me apart from others is my motivation, my commitment, and my strategy to meet my goals.
One of my long-term goals is to play for the MLB. This goal drives my passion, commitment, and high standards I keep for myself. Some people may doubt me, but I have complete confidence in myself and know that I can achieve this.
