Let me introduce myself... my name is Troy Gilpin. I'm currently a Junior at Western High School in Jackson, Michigan. I aspire to continuously grow, improve, compete, and learn. My dream is to take my next step after high school and be a student-athlete in college. I'm currently undecided on my career options. However, I have tossed around a few ideas that range from education, social work to potentially physical therapy. I'm a hard worker in the classroom and I maintain a 3.2 gpa.
As for baseball, it is my passion. I played soccer, basketball and ran cross country through 8th grade. Then as I transitioned to high school I knew I wanted to do all I could with baseball. For multiple years I have worked year round to improve and stay sharp with the game I love.
What separates me as a baseball player is four main points... 1) I have a high baseball IQ and I look for tendencies in my competition as well as focusing on being fundamentally sound 2) I'm a pitcher and I've worked with a former major leaguer for more than 5 years (Geoff Zahn). With Coach Zahn's help and guidance I've developed a highly repeatable motion that has significantly decreased arm issues. 3) As a pitcher I pride myself in locating and changing speeds. I've never blown hitters away with an amazing fastball, so instead I have worked hard to hit my spots and keep hitters off balance. 4) The final point that separates me from others is my work on the mental side of competing. I have worked with Sports Psychologist... Dr. Jason Novetsky at focusing on what I can control, staying neutral, and journaling my performances to push myself to grow and reflect on my outcomes.
In conclusion, I'm a team player and I hold myself to high standards. I clearly understand the importance of being a great teammate and doing the right thing.
