Personal Statement

Hello Coaches,

My name is Colton Mears, and I am 5’ 11” and weigh 185 pounds. I am currently a senior and will graduate in May. I am committed to playing baseball at the college level and have worked very hard to become the caliber player that I believe college coaches are looking for.  I am open to playing baseball anywhere in the country and at the level that is the best match for me. I would like to have the opportunity to contribute to the team as an underclassman.

I have put a lot of emphasis on academics and have maintained a 4.05 GPA through the first semester of my senior year. I am interested in pursuing an education in kinesiology, human performance, or exercise science and either continue my education to become a physical therapist or work as a personal or team trainer. I have learned to deal with adversity in working through a couple of injuries. It has taught me patience and the value of being in the best physical shape possible. Each time I’ve had an injury, I’ve come out of it being a stronger athlete and better person.

Since my sophomore year, I have been the starting varsity catcher for Desoto Central High School, a 6A school. This year, I was chosen as co-captain of the team and have taken the responsibility of being a leader both on and off the field very seriously. I started playing ball at age 6 and joined a competitive team at age 8. I have been fortunate enough to compete at the highest level of USSSA competitive baseball and have won several state championships with my competitive teams, the Memphis Tigers and Knights Baseball. My primary position has been catcher for the past several years, but I have played every position at one time or another, and have even done a little pitching.

For the past two years, I caught for the Dulins Dodgers prospect team and also had the opportunity to catch bullpens for a AAA pitcher and a high level collegiate pitcher. My catching coach is a Johnny Bench Award winner and current professional baseball player.

Thank you for taking time to view my profile. I would welcome the opportunity to talk to you about your baseball program.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
