Previous Personal Statement from High School
Hi Coach---Thank you in advance for taking time to review my profile. I am excited about the next step in my life--playing college baseball!
I have an update. In November, 2021, I was recruited by Green River College in Auburn, WA. I signed an LOI enrolled as a student and I thought was "good to go." Six months later, on April 7, 2022 (2 weeks ago), without any warning, I received a 15 word text from my coach at Green River College saying that the Men's Baseball Program had been cancelled for the 2022 season and they wished me good luck. (FYI, GRC'S Coach Pickett is happy to chat with any college coaches about my baseball skills.) I was stunned and disappointed, but determined to get recruited by another college. I want you to know that I a very hard-working relief pitcher, catcher, outfielder and student. If selected to play baseball for your college, I will always give you, the team, and my college professors my very best possible performance. My goal this year as a high school senior varsity baseball player is to continue improving my skills so that I am at the “top of my game” and ready for college-level baseball. I practice 15 hours/week with the Team, I have 12 hours/week with my personal trainer and 2 hours/week with my pitching coach. If you are looking for a “willing to give it all I have” type of relief pitcher, and a “take no prisoners” type of catcher, then I am your guy. I have a 3.8 GPA and all of my classes are Honors Classes. My college academic goal is to earn a bachelor’s degree in sports management. My career goal is to work for Major League Baseball in whatever capacity I am needed. I can’t imagine my future without baseball. I am a “lifer.” I hope you take a few minutes to watch my videos ('21 & '20). I have played baseball for 12 years, the last 3 years Varsity Baseball for Sierra Vista High School: the State of Nevada's 2021 4A Champions.
I promise to respond immediately to your email or phone call. I can travel to your campus to tryout with only 2 days notice.
FYI, I am currently the head bat boy for the Las Vegas Aviators. (Oakland Athletics AAA Team here in Las Vegas.) I was first hired at age 14 to be a bat boy for the Aviators' 2019 inaugural season. Then In 2020, no baseball due to covid, 2021 no part time bat boys, and I am so happy to be back as a batboy for the 2022 Aviators Season. It is a beautiful stadium and I am proud to be a part of such a great organization.
I am sincerely grateful for your consideration of me for your team. I promise to make you proud. Sincerely, Nick Torres, Class of 2022.
