Landon Penney '24 Recruiting Profile

Hi my name is Landon Penney and I am a two-way pitcher and outfielder at Chaparral High School. I pride myself in striving to grow everyday physically and mentally in the classroom and as a ballplayer with a deep love and passion for the game. The characteristics I present as a teammate are a reflection of my parents and my deep Catholic roots which have instilled teachings of integrity, excellence and faith into every part of my life. In college, I plan to pursue a degree in either architecture, accounting or business, which all align well with my strengths in problem solving and analytical thinking. In the classroom today, I present myself as a leader to my peers and as an overachiever and critical thinker to my teachers. As an athlete, these qualities also drive my success on the field with the additional qualities of an intense competitive nature and hard work ethic. Further, I have a deep rooted "hustlers' mindset" that has been continually preached by my father who has had a great influence on me to be a man of great character and preached the mantra that there's no replacement for hard work. Additionally,  I have also been taught to be a "man for others", which culminated in my founding of the Home2First Foundation: a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity that donates new and used baseball equipment to those less fortunate in the Dominican Republic and Phoenix area. The foundation has taught me countless life lessons including the importance of serving others, reinforcing my Catholic values, expanding my love for the game of baseball and increasingly, my overall gratefulness for the many blessings I have received in my life. With all the above combined with a strong "tribe" of support from my strong and ever-positive network of family, friends, coaches and teachers, I truly believe I'm just "getting warmed up" for outsized success as a student-athlete.
