May 2021 Personal Statement
My name is Jack Lia, and I am a Junior, Class of 2023, at West Morris Mendham High School (WMMHS), located in Mendham, NJ.
I am a driven player and student. I have balanced a demanding academic schedule while playing both HS and club baseball, Varsity soccer, numerous academic clubs and volunteer efforts as well as working toward my Eagle Scout rank (expected completion this summer). I put in as much work on the field as I do off the field. I work well under pressure and consider myself a good teammate and a coachable athlete.
I’ve been playing baseball for 14 years and during this time I have played just about every position. Last year I was the starting short stop and leadoff batter for my high school team. Over the summer I was playing Centerfield for my club team and I really enjoyed it. I feel this position utilizes my speed, arm strength and baseball IQ, although I consider myself a utility player and play SS and 3rd base with regularity.
I’ve been spending time in the off-season weightlifting, speed training, and using BlastMotion metrics during extensive tee work.
