I am working hard every day with the goal to be the best shortstop in the country. I am looking for a program that competes at the highest levels and that not only care about a player’s athletic ability but also their character and work ethic. I focus on being a great teammate and a coachable player. I love hitting but I really enjoy getting to every ball, throwing from any position and making every type of play in the field. I am an athletic shortstop/ middle infielder with a strong arm, real good feet and range. I take pride in consistently making the routine play but love to be tested and make the exceptional play.
I’d like to think I would offer teams at the next level a tough competitor that is well-rounded at all three phases of the game...fielding, hitting and the mental part of the game while demonstrating poise, strong character and leadership qualities. I am always eager to learn and will do my best to help set the bar for team work ethic.
Aside from my athletic ability, I won a Teacher’s Choice Award at the end of middle school that I'm proud of and where the following description of me was prepared by the teacher's of the school and shared at the school's annual award ceremony:
“He is humble, kind, compassionate, and a leader by example. He overcomes adversity like a champion and carries himself with class. He possesses the rare qualities of integrity and character, and has a beautiful spirit. He puts others first and does not seek recognition for his good deeds; he is well regarded and respected by both teachers and peers; and is a gentleman in every sense of the word. My 2016 Teacher’s Choice Award goes to Will Vergantino.”
