My name is Tyler Murphy, I am a incoming senior in high school from Cincinnati, Ohio. I currently play baseball for Oak Hills High School and for J.B. Yeager Baseball in the summer. I am a 6’2” 200 lb. high school student athlete. I am a right handed pitcher and a right fielder. My fastball was recently clocked at 88 mph during Ohio Valley Classic tournament. My personal goal is to reach 90 mph and I’m working hard to achieve this goal. My primary position is pitching, but I also start and play right field for both my high school team and my travel team. I consider myself a strong asset to both of my teams. I work in the offseason with both a pitching instructor and a hitting instructor. I want to maintain my existing skill set and continue to reach the personal goals I have set for myself. I am also currently playing on my high school basketball team while maintaining a 4.0 grade point average.
My father was a three sport high school athlete and played Division 1 baseball for Ball State University. My dad passed on his passion for sports to my brothers and me at an early age. I started playing baseball at five years old. When I first started playing, I wasn’t the best player on the team, but I was determined to get better and be successful. I have worked hard over the years and I’m proud of my baseball successes. I’ve learned many life lessons through playing baseball; I’m a determined, competitive, and a coachable player. One of my favorite baseball quotes and words I try to live by, “there may be people that have more talent than you, but there is no excuse for anyone to work harder than you do.”- Derek Jeter. I like to lead by example and be a positive and supportive teammate.
I am also a very serious student and I’m committed to my academics. It has been a challenge to balance my academics with athletics and I’m proud of my current 4.0 grade point average. I am enrolled in all honors and advanced placement classes at Oak Hills High School. I’m confident that I will be academically well prepared for college. I am a member of National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, the Student Athlete Leadership Team, and Student Council. I am an honor roll student and I received academic awards in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017. I currently have perfect attendance which I have maintained since my seventh grade school year. My goal is to graduate high school with perfect attendance throughout my high school career. I hope to finish high school in the top ten percent of my class and earn an academic scholarship. An academic scholarship would be a great reflection of the countless hours I’ve dedicated to my school work. I am proud of both my academic and athletic accomplishments.
I have a strong faith, I strive to do what is good and right. I want be a positive role model for my two younger brothers, my teammates, and friends. Being an athlete has taught me that patience, humbleness, perseverance, and a positive attitude are game changers. I embrace the many life lessons I’ve learned through athletics. I’m excited about the possibility of playing at the college level. I am thankful for loving parents, great friends, coaches, and teammates that have supported me along the way. I feel blessed by the opportunities I have been given and I look forward to new opportunities ahead.
Sincerely,
Tyler Murphy
