2021 SpotlightPersonal Statement
My name is Sam Scharville. I am a class of 2023 student-athlete at Hudson High School in Hudson, Ohio. I am a two-sport athlete, playing baseball and football. I am an honor roll student with a 4.43 GPA.
As a student-athlete attending a high school that has high standards for their students, I am very well prepared for the next level both on the field and in the classroom. I set high goals for myself to achieve and I am excited to have the opportunity to play the sport I love at the next level.
I have always prided myself on being an unselfish player and a great teammate, and believe it is more important to play for the name on the front of the jersey rather than the name on the back. My strong work ethic is reflected in the results I am proud to achieve at school and on the field.

- Sam Scharville is a 2023 C/OF with a 6-0 205 lb. frame from Hudson, OH who attends Hudson. Strong build on physical, large frame; ran 60 yard dash in 7.14 seconds. Hits from even-based, semi-crouched stance with high back elbow, rotational swing with good torque, generates lots of strength, shows big power pull-side when on time, developing barrel accuracy skills. Worked out behind the plate, sets low and shows good flex in hips, quick transfer with soft hands, stand to throw, clocked up to 75 mph on throws. Excellent student, named to 2022 Great Lakes Indoor Top Prospect List.

- Sam Scharville: C/OF, (2023) Hudson, OH. 5-foot-11, 200-pound. Athletic in the box, the right-handed hitter clocked an exit velocity of 92 mph. Begins in a balanced athletic stance with a controlled smooth load, then uses a big leg kick. Bat speed is above average and uses a level swing plane. Was able to create some loud contact and found multiple barrels. Gap to gap approach. Solid from the outfield, he displayed a position velocity of 87 mph; had a natural exchange, sure hands, and athletic footwork. While catching, his best position velocity throwing to second was registered at 77 mph; has soft hands, athletic feet, and a quick exchange. Displayed next-level catching ability by boasting a 1.93-1.97 pop time. Calm setup with some flexibility. Recorded a time of 7.45 in the 60-yard dash.

- Sam is a very talented/strong (5'11"/200) 2-way prospect who shines on the diamond. Behind the dish, he sits in well with athletic actions and good flexion. He presents a low/soft target and tracks pitches into his mitt. Lateral quickness allows him to body/center pitches in the dirt off of his chest. Transfer is quick with accurate throws on a line to 2B - pop times at an impressive 1.92. In the OF, he puts his athleticism on display covering ground with speed to his right and left. He works behind and through the ball gaining ground toward his target. As a hitter, Sam shows an aggressive approach looking to swing it. Quick hands whip the barrel with authority as he squares the ball up consistently. The ball explodes jumps off of his barrel to the deep parts of the park (exit velo = 94 mph). Scharville is a skilled 2023 grad who is one to keep an eye on.
