My name is Cole Maris. I am a Junior that competes in Baseball with Irrigon Junior/Senior High School. In Freshman year I was chosen for a Varsity team that went to State Playoffs. Last year as a Sophomore I was chosen again for Varsity and was told I was going to be a starter before the season was canceled. I am set apart not by height or any particular speed but I am smart in baserunning, I know roughly what every position requires but I am best in outfield, particularly Center or Left field. The thing that sets me apart though is heart. I don't give up. I keep going even if the score shows that we have no chance of winning, I don't quit. Off of topic, for a second, in one of my basketball games we were down by 25 points and we had less than 30 seconds in the game, my teammates had already quit trying to play defense or anything at all, but I am willful enough not to do that. I kept playing defense until the buzzer sounded. Now another thing is I am super coachable, I am willing to be put wherever the coach wants me to be and learn the position to the best of my abilities. Now as for my collegiate goals I want to go to college, play baseball in said college and get a good enough education for a good job if i'm not good enough for being drafted. That's not saying I won't put in the effort to be good enough but back up plans are always nice. As for my academics I can easily keep a 3.4-3.25 GPA. Along with this, sports don't necessarily get in the way of me keeping that GPA. A small rather inconvenient hindrance is that I have a damaged retina in my right eye and the central vision for that eye is basically gone, it does not effect me in anyway while playing any sport but I figured I should be up front. All in all I want to continue my Baseball career for as long as possible because I enjoy it and I think I am good enough at it to go quite aways.
