I am very respectful of adults and my teammates. I am not disrespectful to coaches or umpires because I don’t think it helps myself or the team. When things go wrong, I am not one to throw my helmet or bat. I remain calm because I think it would hurt my game to get angry and react.
As for athletics, I feel as though I earn my way on the teams I play on. For example, a few years ago, I went to try out for the Stroudsburg Thunder and they had a team formed already, so I thought I would be a backup player. On the way home from the tryout, my mom asked me how I felt about the team being established and how I would feel if I had to sit the bench. My response was that I would just work harder. I ended up playing 2nd base for them for the season because I showed them that I work hard and take baseball seriously. Also during that season I played Babe Ruth and then on the Easton Black Diamonds. On both of those teams I pitched and played 2nd base.
I feel like I am coachable because I am willing to listen to what my coaches tell me and adjust what I do. I think that you cannot become a better player if you don't try to learn something from the people that coach you. I also am motivated to do better by practicing when I am not playing.
I feel I am a natural leader on the field and with my peers. Since freshman year, I would work with some of my teammates by getting together with them to throw or hit in the school’s batting cage. This past summer I talked to the trainer at the school and the trainer allowed us to come three times a week to work out so we could work on strength and conditioning. This year, I have also talked to a teacher who is a yoga instructor and she agreed to come to some of our workouts to teach us yoga. I am not afraid to talk it up on the field and encourage my teammates to do well. It is most important to me that our team works together and that we support each other.
