My name is Gabriel Nieves, and I am a switch-hitting catcher in the class of 2021. I can also play first base and right field. My height is 5-10, and I weigh 180 pounds. I currently attend Cupeyville School in San Juan, Puerto Rico, with a 3.58 GPA and 1000 SAT score. I am a driven person that works extremely hard to achieve all my goals in life.
I’m always striving to get better by listening to my coaches’ and trainers’ advice. I could be at my very best and I would still be wanting to get better and reach another level. My work ethic and leadership are special, as I was named captain of my varsity team. I practice with my team two times a week, go to the gym twice a week, and also have hitting clinics twice. On top of that, I practice every day (before or after team practice) or go to the gym. I work out with my trainer for an hour and a half, with the days divided by different parts of the body (torso, upper body, lower body, chest and sled day).
In the classroom, I am driven the exact same way I am for baseball. Right now I am taking AP Biology. My school was ranked #1 by Middle States in 2018. As a result of studying in a school like this, I’ve had many opportunities to help my community and become a greater leader. After hurricane Maria in 2017, I volunteered to clean up my community. I helped organize the school sport tournaments. Also, I helped a foundation called SER, which works with kids who have autism and other incapacities. I want you to know that my dream is to get my college degree, become a professional, and on the way become the best baseball player I can be. I promise I will work extremely hard and make your university proud. Thank you for taking the time to learn about me, and I hope we can talk soon.
