I threw my first baseball with my dad when I was two years old. It became something that bonded us together throughout my childhood. When I look back, that's where it all started. At every practice, every game from my days at tee ball to several travel teams, middle school and high school ball my dad was always there.
May 2021 I suffered a Pars fracture (Spondylolysis) in my L4 and L5. I met with four spine surgeons from Tennessee, New York and California that delivered news that was not favorable for my recovery. I was told to find another sport, Pars surgery, and was offered little or no hope that I would ever make it back on the field.
I spent 9 months in physical therapy, days, hours focused on getting back. I was dropped from my travel team shortly after my injury which gave me even more determination. It was a time of mental and physical growth. My faith was tested throughout my journey. A lot of soul searching and believing in something greater than myself to help me heal. In August of 2021 I went back for yet another scan of my back, the bones fused on their own something no one expected.
With my parent's support, the support from my physical therapists and coaches from my high school team, that not only encouraged me, but never stopped believing in me, I am proud to say that I am back on the field doing what I love and even better than before.
When asked what position I play, my response is "I play baseball." I believe in the game, my team, my coaches. and myself. I am eager to continue playing baseball in college. I have worked very hard and will continue to work hard until I reach that goal.
Some of the greatest chapters in our lives are the ones that challenge you, the ones that will test you over and over, but it's up to you on how the ending is written.
