My name is Louis Ryan Dominguez. I’m currently attending El Paso High School and will graduate the year 2021. I have played baseball since I was 11 and Made the Varsity team as a Freshman last year. As a Freshman I started all but 2 games in the beginning of the season. My sophomore year I batted .290 on the season as well as recording 11 stolen bases with a .323 OBP. Following my sophomore year, I was listed in Texas High School Baseball Magazine as a "Player To Watch". My junior year was cut short at 12 games, during these 12 games I maintained a .375 Batting Average, .444 OBP and a .594 Slugging % in 32 at bats.
The goals I wish to see reached before I graduate high school are to convert the culture of El Paso High Baseball back to it’s gritty and hard nosed style of play and remove the stigma that EPHS are not district competitors, help lead my team to a district championship, win all district, and to earn and become the captain on the team.
School for me can be difficult and confusing at times due to the fact that I am in the Dual Language Magnet Program which means that my classes are in both English and Spanish, but every year I learn new things and expand my vocabulary as well. I am a dominant English speaker, but have the ability to understand and speak fluent Spanish with the help of the magnet program. I excel in Reading, Writing and History tests as I scored in the top 14% (86th Percentile) with a 1148 PSAT score and plan to raise that score by 150 points when I take ACT and SAT. I also enjoy challenging my self in school by adding AP and PAP classes to my schedule.
When it comes to my character no matter if it’s On-Field or Off-Field, I have one thing in the back of my head at all times, “Head high, Chest out, Chin up, Shake it off, Analyze your mistake, and improve.” This mentality has served me very well over my baseball career and has allowed me to become the player and person I am today. I’m a good leader and constantly remind my teammates and piers to stay positive and don’t give up. During the Off-Season Im constantly in the batting cages taking swings with my dad and fine tuning my game.
I may not be the biggest player on the field, but I use the body I was blessed with to its full ability and never use it as an excuse. I have good range and quick hands at shortstop and second base being able cover a lot of ground and having the time to get a throw off. I pride myself in being a gritty, yet smooth, infielder who lives in the dirt, I will always give 100% on every ball that is hit to me. When I’m not playing middle infield I’m either pitching or playing Center Field.
If I do get the opportunity to play at the Collegiate level I will not take it for granted. I have put my life into this game and I’m NOT ready to give it up after high school.
Thank you for taking time out of your day to read this and view my profile.
