My name is Ashton Rhodes. I am 5’10” and weigh 160 pounds. I have been playing short stop for as long as my memory affords me. At eight years old, I recall watching old footage of a dive performed by Ozzie Smith who bare handed a ball that had bounced in an opposite direction. It was an epic play that resulted in an out and I was so amazed at how smooth and flawlessly he made it look. It was at that moment I was determined to play the game as he did, and my love of Baseball was solidified.
My skills as a shortstop have developed through hard work and constant training year round. Through this hard work I have acquired many attributes as a fielder as well as a hitter such as, a smooth glove, a quick transfer with the ball, and great range making me consistently reliable on the field. My hitting skills include; power, discipline at the plate, and I am strong at spray hitting.
I have been blessed with a supportive and caring family that is the driving force behind my strong values of integrity, compassion, hard work and perseverance. It is nearly impossible to be involved in sports without learning how to grow and improve with each new challenge, each win, and every loss. I learned how to overcome trials and adversity through hard work and persistence. I have learned tolerance for different personalities, attitudes and the politics of sports. And I learned to support my teammates, to honor my coaches and maintain positive characteristics of ambition and determination.
Hard work is the only way to achieve your goals and I have proven that I am capable of overcoming challenges while working as a member of the team. I enjoy meeting people and I have the ability to make them laugh while making the task at hand an enjoyable process. It is because of these skills that I am confident I can be an asset to any team.
