Yogi Berra said, "Baseball is ninety percent mental and the other half physical." I know that logically doesn't make sense, however, I believe it adds up on the baseball field. Things like speed, strength, and coordination are things that I can continuously work on and improve. That is the physical part. The mental part comes from a natural understanding of the game. But just like I have to work hard in the classroom to get mentally strong, I have to work hard mentally on the ball field in order to know what to do in situations, how to run plays, and how to get my defense ready. I have to be ready to lead the team from behind the plate. I guess my coaches see that leadership in me since they have honored me with the Leadership Award for the past three years.
My dad says that baseball not only takes mental and physical ability , but it also takes heart. It takes the heart of sacrifice, hard work, and dedication. It is about giving 100%, 100% of the time for yourself and for the team. In life, I hope that I can use these qualities as I pursue a career in Criminal justice. And I can't wait to put these abilities to work for you and your team on the baseball field.
