As an 18-year-old athlete, though still very young, I’ve already experienced various venues for cheerleading, from sideline to All-Star competitive, and finally high school competitive cheer. I traveled to Atlanta, Dallas, Orlando, Tampa, Gainesville, West Palm Beach, and New Orleans, to compete in National, Regional and District cheerleading competitions. At UCA camp I was named UCA All American two years in a row, as well as Little Miss Sunshine this year for my positive attitude. This year, my senior year 2023-24, I am a Captain for my high school Competitive Cheer Team. We won 1st place States, 1st place Regionals and 1st place Districts this year. I was named All County Cheerleader and I am honored.
In middle school I joined Broward Elite All Stars. I cheered for them and took private tumbling lessons for three years. I was on Junior 2 and Senior 2 teams. I even cheered in middle school as the team captain. My love for the sport and drive for self-improvement kept me going. When the gym folded due to COVID, I tried a new gym, 5 Star Athletics, and I gained new skills with the help of Coach Drew. He could see my potential and athleticism, and he coached me despite that I couldn’t pay for the private lessons. I competed on a level 3 team that year. While on that team, I also cheered competitively at my high school all four years. At West Broward my freshman and sophomore year we won the triple crown first place at States, first place Regionals, first place Districts and second place at Nationals. At Western my junior year we won first place at Districts and Regionals and 4th place at States as a medium tumbling team.
Through my cheerleading experiences I’ve learned that all athletes' dedication and sportsmanship are not the same. I pride myself on living each day to improve myself athletically, whether it’s weightlifting at the gym, taking private tumbling, and stunting lessons, or running. I love watching other teams and uplifting other athletes to be the best they can. I can take a team role, a leadership role and just be flexible and be utilized however the coaches see fit. I help coordinate extra individual stunt practices and help grow other athletes.
In college I want to further my cheerleading experience as I pursue studying in the healthcare field. I am leaning toward nursing, but I am still open to physical therapy or other sports related medicine. I currently hold an overall weighted GPA of 4.5. Keeping my GPA consistent or improving it is my goal. Junior year I achieved an unweighted GPA of 4.0 and weighted 4.5 for all four quarters. I am dual enrolled in college courses at Broward College. My senior year I am enrolled in Early Admission at Broward College, taking only college courses. When I graduate high school, I will already have 39 college credits.
I look forward to many more years of doing what I love, cheer.
