My name is Moira Leung, I am wanting to continue my athletic career in post secondary with the assistance of NCSA. I think that I should be a scholarship recipient because I am strongly dedicated to succeeding and excelling in my high school education, along with my athletic career. I have always had strong drive and determination, which has led me to be where I am today. From a young age I always had goals and dreams that I was dedicated to achieving, such as being on a Worlds Cheerleading team. Since I was 6, cheerleading has taught me so much about myself such as leadership, advocacy, determination, and teamwork. Cheerleading has allowed me to develop as a person by discovering my moral values; honesty, hard work, respect, and advocacy. This year, I am grateful to have been placed on a level 5 worlds cheerleading team, along with a level 4 cheerleading team. I had a reflection on how hard I have worked to get to the level I am at, and how disciplined the journey has been. The recognition from coaches, athletes, and myself, acknowledging that I was dependable to be on a Worlds team allowed me to truly understand and appreciate the hard work I had put into my goals. Two years ago, I had changed cheerleading gyms due to bullying becoming a prominent part of my life which was additionally occurring outside of school and at the gym. Though this was a hard decision to make, I knew that my hopes and dreams of becoming a world athlete would not be ruined by people, and to pursue for my own betterment. Two years later at a gym that has continuously offered opportunities, allowed for my determination to excel. These opportunities have led me to being scouted to be on 2024 All Girl Team Canada for cheerleading, and currently experiencing being on a Worlds team for the first time. Severe bullying degraded me, made me feel worthless, and turned me into a person I couldn't recognize. Often, I find myself taking on leadership roles, unconsciously. I love to help, support, teach, and share experiences of mine with others. I ensure that when there is struggle, I am able to support the best that I can. Part of my nature is to share my knowledge with others, and to learn from others as well. I have experienced a lot in a short amount of time. Though it was very difficult, it has made me a stronger person. I know what it is like to be in a position where you may think that someone is not supporting you, and due to that, I ensure to illustrate leadership and advocacy for myself and others, as I don't ever want someone else to feel the way I have felt before. Not everyone gets the chance to be a leader, and not everyone is meant to be a leader. Being a leader requires an understanding of others as well. Leadership relies on a communal effort, and a leader is someone who is able to adapt, learn, share, and grow. Leadership allows me to be a person for others who are struggling no matter how significant the struggle is. In cheer, I hold myself accountable to my sport by pushing myself knowing that it will better me not only as an athlete, but as a person. I hold myself accountable because I know that it will shape me into being a better teammate, for my teammates. I always say that if you struggle to find a way to do it for yourself, you do it for your teammates or someone that you love. I’ve learned that being able to be a dependable and accountable person for someone can be your “why” in life. Sometimes it is hard to find the “why” in life when you are struggling. I have run into countless instances when I ask myself “why am I doing this”. My “why” in life is to take and appreciate opportunities. I have been in a position where at one point I did not have a why, I just did. I hit my lowest and didn't have the motivation to fix what I felt was wrong, or achieve what I thought I could be capable of. I took for granted the good and happy moments I experienced and realized that until I didn't have that feeling, I didn't realize how important it really was. I have a new perspective, to take all the opportunities that are given, and to make the most of them. Additionally, my career goal is Law, specifically human rights. I am invested in helping others advocate for what is right and to not settle for something that is dishonorable. I speak up about conflicts that I do not morally agree with or think is safe, and I want other people who do not have that same freedom to be helped. I think that the NCSA will help me to achieve my future career goal by supporting me through my academic success. The level of teaching and attention will help me to further comprehend subjects and gain the knowledge I will need to profess post-secondary education. I believe that NCSA will help support me in my cheerleading athletics GOALS. Cheerleading is my outlet and through that, I will be able to have a greater education outcome with a higher level of focus.
