The type of college I am interested in attending is one that has a community feel the minute you step foot on campus. Throughout high school I have had good relationships with my teachers and fellow classmates. The college I attend needs to feel like home and a place where I can build new relationships with teachers and classmates. In school I am a hard worker and I ask questions when I cannot grasp the concepts we are learning. I take initiative and form study groups with people in my classes when we have just received new and difficult material. I work well with others and working together in a group allows me to help others as well as learn from my peers.
Over the last four years as a field hockey goalie I have grown as an athlete. Besides playing for my high school team, I also play club field hockey. These two different experiences have given me the opportunity to work with several different coaches and many different teammates. I can easily adapt to the players skill level in front of me and I am able to adjust my play according to each coaches instructions for their game plan. I am different from other goalies because I know the skills I can do well and I know what I need to improve on. During the last four years I have built relationships with coaches and teammates. As the captain this year I have stepped up to be a leader on and off the field. I am respected as a player and a leader by coaches and teammates. I voice my opinions on new formations and drills that will not only benefit me but everyone else on the team in such a way that my coaches take what I say into consideration. Regularly the coaches come to me after games and practices to ask if I was able to see what was working in our systems and what was not. I listen to my coaches and do what they ask of me to the best of my ability. I give 100% every time I am on the field whether it is practice or a game. If I start to doubt myself I am quickly able to get it out of my own head and refocus on the goals set in front of me. I accept criticism well and will work hard to improve my skills everyday.
