Personal Statement
My name is Sasha Mitchell and I live in New Zealand. I have played hockey since I was 12 years old which is a late start compared to my friends that I play hockey with.
When I started I played for an intermediate school (Belmont Intermediate), however I didn't attend this school, I attend St Mary's College but we did not have a team in this year (2011). In the same year I started playing I was lucky enough to be named in a North Harbour Representative team (under 13's) that went to nationals. We were not as successful as we would of liked to have been and only came 9th. In this same year I was also asked to play the last half of the season for the St Mary's Premier team and we went to schools nationals and lost the final on strokes. Overall coming second. In 2012 I was named in the St Mary's Premier team but unfortunately I was not named in the North Harbour team I trailed for (under 15's) . The St Mary's team went to nationals and we came 8th, which was disappointing from our 2nd the year before. In 2013 I was again names in the St Mary's Premier team and lucky this year I was also named in the North Harbour Representative team (under 15s). This year I also started playing club and I was put into the Senior 1 East Coast Bays team (3rd devision). My school and representative teams went down to their respective nationals, my north harbour team placed 3rd and our St Mary's team didn't do too well and came 12th. In 2014 I was again named in the St Mary's College premier team and also the North Harbour Representative team. This year I was also named in the premier reserve East Coast bays club team (2nd devision) Our St Marys team went to schools nationals and we placed third and my North Harbour Representative team went down to nationals and we placed 1st. This was defiantly my best year of field hockey as results go. And last year I was named in both my St Mary's Premier team and my North Harbour Representative team (under 18s) . St Marys went to schools nationals and we placed 4th while our North Harbour team was not so successful and only placed 7th. I was once again named in the East Coast Bay's Premier reserve team This year (2016) I have made St Mary's premier team and am captaining it, and east coast bays premier team, and I am working up to my North Harbour trails in early May.
I love hockey, I play every day and prioritise it over most other things. I am always a team player and love playing a team sport over any other individual ones. I have played basically every sport you could think of, from gymnastics to touch rugby (popular sport in NZ). But hockey has defiantly come out on top. I love playing team sports because of the sense of family. My hockey friends are the closest friends I could ever get. I want to be able to broaden my hockey horizon and try and learn new skills and techniques but also make new friends and I think joining a college in the USA would be a perfect way to do this
I love school and I love learning. I don't know what GPA is but in New Zealand we do NCEA. There are 3 levels and I have completed 2 and am doing my third one now. In level 1 and 2 I endorsed with Excellence (highest) and also endorsed my favourite subjects (Physical Education, Biology and Chemistry) with excellence. I would love to be able to leave the USA with a Nursing or Physiotherapy degree.
