Personal Statement
Hello coaches! how are you? My name is Sofia Fiorentino, a 19-year old Argentinian field hockey player, whose dream is to be a student-athlete in the United States. I´ve been playing hockey since I was 12, but begun training professionally at the club at age 16. Although you might think it's been a short amount of time, I´m a very fast learner and a passionate girl. What´s more, I´ve been awarded several prizes all through high school for my achievements. In my 2nd year of high school, I was awarded an effort and merit prize for my growth during the 2016 year. Afterwards, at the end of my graduation year, 2019, I was given the prize for the student who grew and improved the most all through secondary school. At my school, this award means a lot, and especially to me because I was entirely devoted to the sport. Thanks to my school's encouragement and my dreams I joined my club, where I a member of the team ever since. I certainly don't mean to brag around but every person I run across congratulates me and my parents for all the achievements and development I´ve had over these 2 years. And so, I am determined to continue giving my best to improve as much as I can to pursue my dream of being a student-athlete. That is mainly why besides my training at the club three times a week, I attend Pablo Lombi´s Project, where we athletes go to improve our skills.
Regarding academics, I´m a very devoted girl. Although I had a rough time through high school (illness of close relatives, sister and grandmother) I did my best efforts at school. That is why I was given a number of merit and effort awards. Every semester I would try to achieve more than the previous one. It's certainly important that I clarify I´m an overachiever. The feeling of improvement and effort is very much rewarding. I was all my last 3 years of high school in the roll of honour. What´s more, I´ve sat for multiple Cambridge Language Exams: PET, FCE, IGCSE English as a first language, and finally Certificate of Advanced English. One of the things I loved the most was English, that was my favourite lesson. Having learnt this language, besides my hockey skills, is what's allowing me to fulfil my dreams.
Inlight of the above, I hope you can consider me for your team. Thank you for having taken the time to read my statement.
Best wishes and luck to your teams.
Sofia
