Personal Statement
My name is Bethany Sellwood, I am currently living in New Zealand and I am a class of 2025 field hockey player who is looking to continue my journey in an American team as a defender. I am a very determined academic student and athlete. I am committed to my studies and to making sure that I improve my skills in each training session. I am a highly coachable and adaptable athlete who is always enthusiastic to practice and give it my all. I have been playing field hockey as a defender since I was 6 years of age and I am now the captain of my Nga Tawa high school team, which is the First XI. I start every game, and I believe that I have good leadership and interpersonal skills. I was recently selected for a women's Marist club team in Division II. I have experience in all 3 positions, but I specialize as a defender. I couldn't imagine a life without hockey as it is a major passion of mine. I love the team aspect and the competitiveness that goes along with the sport as well as the competition. I am hoping to complete a college program that would allow me to work in criminology as it is my intended major. Currently in my NCEA journey, I have passed levels 1 & 2 with Excellence endorsed and I hold the prefect position of Head of Sport at Nga Tawa Diocesan School. I am also the captain of the school Touch Team and am an active member in an adult summer hockey league.
