Personal Statement
I have been playing field hockey at primary school in South Africa since I was seven years old. Since I first stepped on the field, I have dreamt at playing at college level. I know that playing in college is a once in a lifetime opportunity that could enrich and change my life immensely.
That time is now fast approaching and as an aspiring college athlete, I have always excelled both in the classroom and on the sports field and thus believe I would be a great fit for a college field hockey program.
A bit about me:
My name is Cate Riley Cook and I play left link (midfielder) for Woodridge College High School 1st Team here in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. In addition, I play left link for a Women’s Premier League Club called Crusader Warriors and am a starter for both teams. I also play upfront for an indoor hockey club called Vipers Port Elizabeth.
I have solid work ethic, have never missed a day of training and have fine-tuned my hockey skills over the many years of playing. I know I would be a great match for your program.
I have excellent stick skills and play a very technical game of hockey. Being a team leader, I try to lead by example whilst always encouraging my teammates. I am very coachable and strive to be one of the hardest working players and one of the hardest working recruits you’ll find.
I am known for my perfect playing temperament, constant determination and nerve.
I play left-link with great confidence, can breakdown play with ease and keep up easily with the pace of any game. I am known to be a committed, passionate and focused member of the team.
One of my biggest assets is that I’m a team player who has the ability to perform on the sports field whilst equally performing in the classroom. In the classroom, I work hard and always give of my best. I would like to pursue a degree in the Sciences and I have been researching your college’s science offerings.
I volunteer for a few non-profit organizations, offering my service to rhino and other animals without a voice.
I want to attend a college where I can excel in the classroom and on the field. I am open to all options and want to ultimately find the right college match at the highest level of competition possible.
I would love to chat further regarding opportunities at your university.
Kind regards
Cate Cook
