"Can we go to the turf?" is a daily question I ask my parents, going on eight years. Ever since I picked up a field hockey stick, I fell in love with the game. Both my parents played collegiate sports, and seeing the great impact it had on their lives made me realize that I wanted to play in college too. My mom is still connected to her field hockey team over twenty years later, and through their own weddings, having kids, and being together through happy and challenging times shows me that teammates are family for life.
I started playing competitively since fifth grade, and added club in seventh grade. Playing club, I traveled for several field hockey tournaments, and was able to be part of many teams while experience various coaching styles. Freshman year of high school, I was named best offensive player of the year on our JV team, which gave me motivation to make varsity my Sophomore year. Being on varsity has taught me a lot about the sport, as well as time management. I have loved being able to grow with a new team, and with having many different coaches, the consistent feedback from all of them has been the same. Coaches describe me as very coachable, having a high field hockey IQ, having a positive attitude, and hungry to continue to level up my game. I am looking for a school with health studies, where I can continue to play and be coached at the highest level possible, while also balancing a challenging course load. Two years ago we installed a turf in part of our backyard, so I can practice my shooting and fundamental skills. My parents thought putting in our backyard turf would stop me from asking to go to the turf every day, but it didn't.
