Although I didn't start playing field hockey until 7th grade when I started attending Greenhills School, I have absolutely fallen in love with the game. After 2 middle school seasons with an incredibly supportive coach at Greenhills, I committed myself to improving my skills and being the best field hockey player that I could be. I participated in USA Futures in 2015, and despite breaking my arm in one of the last sessions, I continued to pursue opportunities outside of school to improve my skills. I did a summer clinic with Pinnacle Field hockey, one of 2 club programs in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and went back to Greenhills for my freshman season feeling better about my game than ever before. Greenhills endured a tough season, but I kept pushing myself to get better. After my freshman season concluded, I played on the U16 NIT team with other Ann Arbor club program, Fer de Lance, and also participated in the Pinnacle winter program. That Spring, I went back to Futures as a U16, and played in the Fer De Lance summer league, Pinnacle's summer program, and attended camp at both Michigan State and the University of Michigan. In my sophomore season, I started at many different positions, including right and left back, and right and left mid. Our team secured 3 conference wins that season, more than we had in the past 3 years. I then travelled to Shooting Star over Thanksgiving, and played for Lynn Hoeppner with the Element Athletics U19 team. I played with the Fer de Lance indoor team that winter, as well as attending Winter Escape and National Hockey Showcase with Element. I participated in 2017 Futures as a U16, and attended the New England Premier Showcase in early June. This summer, I will be participating in FDL's summer league, as well as Pinnacle's summer trainings. I will also make the trip to Top of the Class South in late July. While I may not be the most naturally gifted player, I believe that I am the most committed. I have been working year-round and I am only getting better. I have taken on a leadership role on my school team, and I am encouraging all of my teammates to play outside of school. I am committed to the development of my own skills, but also in the development of my school team into a successful program.
In addition to playing field hockey, I also participate in several other extracurricular activities. In my freshman year, I joined the Greenhills Forensics team. I competed in open invitationals against students in 9th - 12th grade, advanced to the final rounds at every tournament, and finished my rookie season by taking second place at the Novice State Tournament. In my sophomore season, I advanced to the regional tournament, won the regional championship for my event, and advanced to the final round at the State tournament, eventually earning 6th place. I was also voted captain of the forensics team for my upcoming junior season, and I hope to hold that title for the next two years. As well as forensics, I also participated in Ethics Bowl, and competed in the Michigan state tournament with a team from my school. I am also a competitive equestrian, and have been riding for as long as I can remember. I ride Morgan horses on the Class A circuit, and I have won multiple championships at the local, regional, and national level.
While I do participate in many extracurricular activities, academics are my central focus. I currently hold a 3.92 GPA at Greenhills School, which is an unusually demanding independent college preparatory school. I am enrolled in as challenging a curriculum as possible for the coming academic year, including Advanced Biology, AP US History, AP Spanish, and AP English. For the past three years, I scored in the top 94th percentile on the National Spanish Exam, and won three consecutive gold medals for my overall performance on the exam.
Looking to the future, I hope to major in Pre-Med or Biology, and attend medical school. My ultimate goal is to become a surgeon. As a surgeon, I would be able to have major impacts on the lives of patients everyday. I have always been interested in science, and I hope to make that interest into a career in the future.
