My name is Mischa Weston, a sophomore at Chichester High School. A unique characteristic about me is that my mother is Liberian, and my father is Irish. Growing up, my mother loved academia while my father loved athletics, making them inimitable in their own way. They continue to teach me their different passions, while allowing me to explore my own. Through this journey, I have learned that whatever I devote my time to, I can accomplish.
In the seventh grade, I was intrigued by a discussion I had with my art teacher regarding field hockey. This led me to attend my very first practice where I found my new passion. As a result of this new-found passion, I devoted my time and energy to learning and perfecting my craft.
One thing I have learned about myself through field hockey is patience. Field hockey is a sport that requires teamwork, communication, and patience to win. While I am nowhere near where I need to be, I have made big strides since I began playing the sport.
I am motivated by forensic psychology. Currently, I am working toward this goal by striving to be a great student and leader within my community. This has led me to not only be selected as a member of the National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS), an elite group of high school students worldwide, but also as an Ambassador for this esteemed organization. I intend to build upon this goal while in college by maintaining ambitious standards not only in the classroom, but also on the field.
One obstacle that is prevalent in my life, that I will continue to work on is time management. Keeping up my grades, being a better team player, perfecting my passion for professional modeling and acting while still completing my chores at home and assisting with the care of my baby sister has proven to be overwhelming. With some of the time management skills I have learned thus far, I am able to be more productive which has also decreased my stress and anxiety levels.
Over the last few years, the exposure afforded me has made me embrace who I am, and the things I am enthusiastic about. If accepted onto a team, I strongly believe that I will build upon the skills and knowledge needed to effectively contribute to the development of the team.
