Dear Coaches,
My name is Emily Bramble and I am currently a junior at York Suburban High School. I have been playing field hockey for 7 years and have always loved the sport. In 2018, I injured my knee, therefore, during my freshman season I was a Junior Varsity starter and floater.
I am no stranger to hard work and determination. While playing field hockey during my freshman year, I also attended physical therapy to strengthen my knee. In March 2020, during Covid shut down, I began to work out at home every day while working on my stick skills. I attended all of my school's voluntary preseason practices (one of the very few people), decreased my mile time by almost 2 minutes, and continued to workout. As a result of all my hard work, I was a Varsity starter this past season. I was also, switched from center defender to a midfield position because of my communication on the field and because of how much my fitness improved.
My junior year, I was one of 4 captains (but one of 2 juniors who were captains), had to deal with pain in both of my knees (which had me briefly on crutches for a weekend before I was returned that Monday playing like nothing happened), and was recognized with the Individual GPA Award (with a GPA of 3.5 or higher) while the team was recognized with the All-State GPA Award (GPA of 3.3 or higher).
Additionally, I have learned about the value of losses and the value of wins through both my school and club team because we won and lost as a team. The losses strengthened us and provided me with additional motivation to improve. I embrace challenges and cannot wait to continue playing. I am looking forward to playing collegiate field hockey so that I can improve my communication, my skills, and play with and against new people.
Thank you so much!
