Personal Statement

I have been playing field hockey for five years now, so I started playing on a rec league team in 7th grade. I played both the indoor and outdoor seasons for the first two years that I played. In 9th grade I still played on the rec league team but I also played for my high school, Hampton High. We didn't have enough people to have a JV team so I automatically was on varsity, however it doesn't end there.  As a freshmen goalie playing on varsity I was awarded Honorable mention in the district. Sophomore year I kept playing but didn't get any awards, however, at a field hockey camp I participated in over that summer, I was given the award of most outstanding player out of the whole camp which was several hundred people. This past season, junior year, I got the award of second best team goalie in my district. Getting second place has yet been the hardest for me to achieve, I played a game without a voice, that I had lost from having games two or three days in a row, because on the field you will hardly hear me shut up, I got a two month old bruise but it didn't affect me when game time came around. I am very serious about field hockey, as well as, having a lot of experience, which could help me go a long way in gaining more experience.

In the off season Sophomore year I decided to play soccer to stay in shape for field hockey, even though I was still playing on rec. leagues the training and practices would have went from five days a week to one day if that. So I decided to become the JV soccer goalie, which upon reflecting, I feel has made me more comfortable in front of a goal. At the end of the season I was awarded the most improved player, which I was not expecting.  Junior year I went back out there, again to stay in shape and enjoy playing the ball,  and became one of the two varsity goalies.

Even with playing two sports during the school year, as well as, participating in German club and Latin Honor Society, I have been able to maintain a 4.12 GPA in the International Baccalaureate diploma program. Most students have the tendency to slack off on their grades with playing sports during school, however my parents were constantly telling me "Hey, if you want to keep playing field hockey or soccer you have to keep up your grades",  so I grew up with sports being a motivation for keeping good grades. I personally believe that this well help me be able to pursue field hockey while in college. After I graduate college, I plan to further my education by going to Med-school, get my doctorates degree, then pursue my dream job of becoming a medical examiner.
