Personal Statement

My name is Tyler Wright and I am a senior at Cienega High School in Vail, AZ (just outside Tucson).  I will graduate in May 2014.  I am very interested in playing football at the college level.  I was born in San Antonio, TX to a military family and have been raised in a very disciplined environment.  I grew up playing several sports (baseball, soccer, basketball, wrestling), but have decided that football is the sport I will pursue while in college.

I’m seeking a position as a Linebacker.  During 9-11th grades I played both OLB and MLB (see 2012 highlights), however this season I was tasked as starting Defensive Tackle.  I also started on offense first few games this season playing Rt Guard.  If you view the full game footage from the Ironwood Ridge game, you will see me play both OL/DL for nearly entire game (sat out a few offensive plays only), where I made a sack for -12yds.  As a sophomore I was called up to varsity for the playoffs and we ended-up AZ State Champion runner-up for Div II.  This season I have been nominated for National Football Foundation Scholar Athlete Award and earned All Section Defense, 2nd team Honors.

Once enrolled in college, I am considering a major in Criminal Justice or Kinesiology & Physical Education.  I am a good student (GPA 3.44, ACT 23) and am surrounded by well-educated mentors.  Both my parents and older brothers have undergraduate and graduate degrees.  I am a Christian and my family maintains current membership at El Camino Baptist Church, where I attend high school Sunday school classes.

I am a very hard worker with a great passion and desire to continue playing football while a student-athlete in college.  I am considering a wide range of possible schools.  We have lived in several different places, so I am open to anywhere in the nation.  Ultimately my goal is to play for a high-quality program where my talents are needed, while earning my degree.  Having a college degree is crucial in today’s competitive employment markets, so I am focused on making that happen and will certainly welcome the opportunity to play football at the same time.
