My name is Marquis Knighten. I played four years of varsity football at Sunny Hills High School in Fullerton, California. Sunny Hills was not my first choice for high school. In particular, they were not my first choice for my football career. I wanted to go to a school with a big football reputation. My parents said that education was just as important as my sport and because Sunny Hills has a great academic reputation I would go to school there with my sisters. If I could make it academically at Sunny Hills then I should be able to make it in college. My parents have been very supportive and have done everything possible to help me succeed including providing tutors to help me through the high academic challenge of Sunny Hills and private instruction to push me to the next level in my football career.
All of the above is great. I am very thankful to have such supportive parents and sisters. But, I am also very thankful for my coaches and teammates, my extended family. The men and brothers who have taught me not the cliche of "work hard" but "effort, accountability, teamwork, and brotherhood." Sunny Hills has had many successes and accolades in the last four years that they have not had in 10-20 years. I'm proud to say I was a part of their success and reinvention. It doesn't matter where you come from or how you start but where you're going, how you finish. Incoming freshman and transfer students are looking forward to becoming a Sunny Hills Lancer Football Player. I am looking forward to watching the football program continue to grow and be one of those programs young boys want to be a part of. Most of all, I am looking forward to my continued growth as a student, football player, teammate, brother and man at the next level in whichever program would love to have me. My next program to be a part of and proud of.
