Personal Statement

Hi My name is Ryan Wallace. I am 6'4" tall and weigh 260 lbs. I am currently a junior and the starting center at Whittier Christian High School in La Habra, CA and have played football for each of my three years in High School. My freshman year I played junior varsity and only played a few games due to injury however the next year I played every game of junior varsity and also stepped into a key role at varsity left guard during the last few regular season games and throughout playoffs when our starter got hurt. Our team made it to the semi-finals of CIF that season and I played in every CIF game that year. This past season I became the team's starting center and took every snap of every game this year. Our team went undefeated in the olympic league and made it once again to CIF. In CIF I played every snap of every game up to the finals which unfortunately we lost. The week going into our semi-final game I was diagnosed with pneumonia and despite missing almost the whole week of practice, I went and played the whole game, which we won in overtime on a two point conversion. Throughout the season I was 100% with my snaps from shotgun and had only 2 muffed snaps from under center neither of which were lost to the other team. I also recieved 1st team all league and all CIF awards this year. In the classroom I take honors and AP classes and have a cumulative GPA of 4.2. Being the center on my team this year I stepped into a leadership role, making sure everything was in order on the field and I believe I played an important role in leading our team to both a league championship and to the finals in CIF. I also believe I display characteristics of hard work and drive once again displayed by our semi-final game this year when I had pneumonia. Ultimately, my goal after High School is to take my game to the next level and compete at the highest level of collegiate athletics that is possible for me. I do not have a perferred area of the country or size of school however I do like a more open or rural area, for example I would not like a school in the middle of a busy city. Another thing about the college that I would like to attend: it does not have to be a Christian college however I would like it to have some kind of Christian club or student organization that I can join. I have not decided on a major yet but I do think I would like to pursue a major in Engineering, either mechanical, electrical, or aerospace. Financially, if I were to go to school outside of California, I would need some level of financial aid or scholarship to be able to afford it. Finally, It is my dream to play football in college and overall it is my goal to attend the best school I can get into and play football there. I believe that I am a good enough athlete to participate in collegiate athletics and I have valuable characteristics to contribute to whatever team I choose to play for. I look forward to making the next step in improving my game and attending a great college and creating a great foundation for my life after college.
