Shawn Herrera '22 Recruiting Profile

My name is Shawn Dominic Herrera.I am from Los Angeles California and grew up in the city of Boyle Heights. I am half Mexican and half Guatemalan. I started playing football when I was about 5 or 6 years old. I wanted to play because I saw my brother play and as little brothers do, I wanted to do what he did. What started as me just copying my brother, became me having a genuine passion for the game at just about 7 years of old. I've played football doing everything to perfect my craft every year since then. My collegiate goals are to keep a promise I made my mom when I was very young which is to graduate with a 4 year degree, to not just scrape by in college but to exceed in it, and hopefully one day be greatly honored and remembered as one of the greatest college football players to ever come out of whichever college I land in. I believe what makes me a great candidate for a team is I am a leader. I don't want to sound arrogant or anything but it's what I know I am and any player or coach that has stood by me will tell you the same. I've always made sure to stay humble and lead by example ever since I was a kid playing in Pop Warner in those dirt field parks when in my mind I was playing in a stadium. If there was a player faster than me I'd do everything to be faster. If there was someone stronger I'd do everything to be even stronger. If there was a player smarter than me (which is rare) I’d take it upon myself to learn what I didn’t know. For my last 6 years of playing football, I have been a captain. I have created and led the pregame chants. I have received 5 scholarship certificates, 3 offensive MVP's,  2 Defensive MVP's, and 1 Team MVP. Those are my accolades thus far but I have never done it for the awards. I do this because this is what I want to do. I play every game like it’s my last and will always leave every bit of myself on that field. I’m more than just another confident kid who’s chasing a very rare accomplishment. Anyone who doubts that I will gladly prove them wrong. I forever try to live by two words. 'BE BOLD". Thank You.
