I have had the opportunity and privilege to play tackle football for the last two years (8th grade and 9th grade). However, I knew football was my love after playing travel flag football for six year. The friendships, challenges, sweat and hard work have made me the football player that I am today. During my freshman year, I had the opportunity to be a 3 sport athlete (varsity football, jr. varsity and varsity wrestling and frosh/soph & varsity track). High school football has allowed me to really learn and grown as a young man. It has also provided me the chance to play with bigger, stronger and faster players (juniors and seniors) and know that I have the toughness and mental ability to play with the best high school players in central California. Wrestling has taught me the physical toughness that I need to be a "beast" on the football field. Wrestling also provided me with takedown skills, balance and leverage required to play starting wide receiver and starting safety. As a sprinter on the track team, I was able to improve my technique which allowed me to increase my speed which is essential for wide receivers. I received an award for the boys frosh/soph track MVP of the year for my school. All of the things I have learned my freshman year will help me be successful during my sophomore year. However, I truly understand that learning and getting better is a continuous process that will require me to continue to push myself beyond my limits.
In addition to athletics, I am also a focused student and learner in the classroom maintaining a 4.0 GPA during my freshman year. My dad always emphasizes the importance of good grades and getting a good education. He tells me all the time that an education will provide you with a lifetime of opportunities, but a football career will provide you with temporary success.
My goal is to attend college where I can obtain a good education in the field of my choice (currently unknown). I would also like to continue my football career at the next level playing the sport I love. But for now, as a sophomore, I want to focus on getting bigger, stronger and faster to help my team make another run to the California State Championship Football game.
