Ryan Herrera '15 Recruiting Profile

My name is Ryan Herrera and I am currently a football player at Merrill F. West High School in Tracy, California. I am 17 years old and a senior. I am very passionate, focused, and dedicated to the sport of football. I first started to play football at the age of 11 in the 6th grade and have played it every year since, improving and progressing as a player as the years have gone by. I have learned that team chemistry and working together is the main objective to have a successful team, and football has taught me to be one who tries to bring the team together by leading by example, on and off the field. Just as practice is very important to becoming a great player, it starts in the classroom. Even at a young age, I have always strived to be the best I can be in academics and I believe this has also carried on to the field as well, because I will give nothing less than 110% when playing. I am very driven to be the best student-athlete I can be, always trying to get better at whatever I do in life. Because of my work ethic, I have had a number of accomplishments throughout my football career so far. In 2011, I was promoted from the Freshman Football team to the Junior Varsity Squad where I really excelled at both Tight End and Defensive End. My 2012 Sophomore year set the bar even higher following last year, as I performed at an even higher level I had ever performed at. My performance earned me a spot as one of the captains of the team and Most Valuable Player of the team, as well. I finally gained some Varsity experience my 2013 Junior year. To accommodate the lack of offensive lineman, my coach moved me from Tight End to Right Guard for the last 7 of 10 games. I was able to finish the year with awards such as Offensive Lineman of the Year and Captain of the team.
