Unlike most young children, I did not want to play organized sports. My parents, like most parents, thought it would be good for me to participate. They signed me up for tee ball and soccer on more than one occasion. It was never a meaningful experience until fifth grade. That is the year I discovered football.
Football has changed my life. I have always been in the 99th percentile for height and weight ever since I was an infant. I have been given the size of an O Lineman. However, when I played youth football, I always struggled with making the weight limit. I had a Coach who saw the potential in me and every day I put in extra workouts with his guidance to be sure I made weight. It made me realize that my goals are earned, not handed to me. I also realized that I am a much stronger person than I thought and it made my time on the field that much sweeter.
At this time, I am not sure what career path is best suited for me. My goal is to play in the NFL. I know that for some athletes that is a short lived experience so I want to be sure that I have another career in mind. I am looking in the direction of sports communications and journalism. I am a student athlete and my first choice of school will be based on academics and then football.
I am a good candidate because I am a hard worker on the field and off the field. I want to succeed in academia and in athletics and will work to make sure that happens. I am a team player and am willing to listen to other’s ideas.
My parents have taught me that I can achieve my goals if I work hard. I am of good character because of lessons they have shared with me. I am not a gifted scholar or athlete. I have had to work to get what I want. This has made me appreciate what I have accomplished.
