Football is a sport that knowingly demands dedication and hard work but is unique in its’ ability to inspire personal growth in areas that reach much further than the boundaries of the field. I decided in my freshman year, after playing several years of pop Warner to reintroduce myself to the game. It did not take long for me to discover that it would be one of the best decisions I made in my high school years. For me, football helped me build confidence in myself. With that confidence I became more goal oriented. I did not take my natural athletic abilities or my size for granted. I work hard on and off the field to be healthy and build strength. These revelations were just the beginning. Football is responsible for helping me be a better person both on and off the field and that is my reason for wanting to pursuit playing football while I complete my college education.
I am proud of the success I have had with the Foran Lions and all that I have contributed to the team. My coaches recognize me for my strength and skills in several positions including Quarterback, Wide Receiver and Linebacker. My team has respect for me for being a leader and inspiring them by leading by example. I share with them that I am very goal oriented and motivate them to really work hard ,as a team, for results. It is important to me to motivate each player and make them feel capable of giving more than they ever felt they were capable of. My developments in these areas also led to me being a better communicator. I am quick and decisive on the field and also take responsibility for communicating messages from coaches to all players for announcements and schedule changes as they come up. My coaches and team showed me their gratitude by electing me Senior Captain this year.
The lessons I learned in football have helped shape me as I matured through high school. I gained the confidence, in an age period where peer pressure is intense, to know the importance of being genuine and true to myself. I am the youngest of three boys in my family and my parents and brothers have always impressed the importance of not letting others pressure me to compromise my character. I believe this has helped me gain trust and already has helped me become a leader. Football again has helped keep me humble and balanced. While I developed my own personality, football has kept me aware of the importance of building up those around me. The more I encourage and motivate and the better I listen to understand, the better our team chances are to become unstoppable. Finally, I am a strong believer in humor. I like to laugh and make those around me do the same. Laughter is an incredible tool to connect with people, reduce stress and increase coping skills.
While I was working hard to develop my physical ability in the game of football, all of these chain reactions were happening without me really realizing it. I now know I can bring all of these skills to a school and program that share my ideals and will continue to help me develop them and support my academic goals as they welcome me to their team.
